On November 11, 1918, as the clock reads 5:15 a.m., in Rethondes on Marshal Foch’s train, the armistice was signed. Inscribed in the history books as the victory of Peace, this date marks the end of a war that claimed more than a million lives among French troops.
Today, this great day invites us to pay tribute to the sacrifice of these men and women, soldiers and civilians, who fell in the First World War.
All over France, commemorative ceremonies are being organized, as is the case at the British Memorial and the War Memorial in Arras or at the 14-18 Memorial in Notre-Dame-de-Lorette.
